Ora Calendar

Ora is a wall-mounted digital calendar concept that presents a more beautiful solution than what consumers have come to expect from a calendar.

My goal with the Ora Calendar was to visually represent how those with sequence-space synesthesia perceive time as well as offer a more beautiful calendar to consumers; one that combined wall-art and utilitarian object.

Artist statement

The concept behind Ora stemmed solely from a unique personal experience. My whole life I have envisioned the calendar year as a ring, void of rigid visual form but perceived as a collection of instinctual spatial relationships. I am one of an unknown amount of synesthetes that have sequence-space synesthesia, a condition where ordinal sequences are perceived as occupying space. With Ora, my goal was to physically manifest this experience as well as offer a more beautiful calendar to consumers.

As my first venture in product design, I wanted to create a wall-mounted device that combined sculpture and utilitarian object. It was imperative to design something that served an aesthetic purpose when the device wasn’t in active use. The inclusion of light emanating from the device engages the space in which it is placed and adds to the overall beauty of the form. This combined with the sleek housing makes Ora a distinct addition to any space.
